The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Pays d'Oc

When our buyers first visited Cahors in Southwest France, they had just one item on their shopping list: a rich and fruity Cahors Malbec. However, their visit to the team at Clos la Coutale revealed an unexpected delight: a bright and crisp rosé. Crafted by sixth and seventh generation winemakers, Phillipe and Sébastien Bernède, this wine exemplifies their mission to transform the perception of Cahors. This dry and crisp Malbec rosé offers a refreshing profile of strawberry and redcurrant, perfectly balanced by crisp acidity. It's best enjoyed chilled, either on its own or paired with a spicy prawn pad Thai.

The Winemaker

Phillipe Bernede
Winemaker:

Phillipe Bernède

Father and son duo Phillipe and Sébastien Bernède, the 6th and 7th generation winemakers at Clos la Coutale in Cahors, Southwest France, have a deep-rooted connection to the region. Growing up in Cahors, they gained intimate knowledge of its soils and wines from an early age, enabling them to authentically capture the true essence of Cahors in every bottle.

"We ferment this wine for 15-18 days, using manual punching down to achieve an optimal balance of aromas and quality. Next, we age a portion of the wine in wooden vats to enhance its aromas further. The result is a fruity yet refreshing rosé, perfect for any occasion." - Phillipe Bernède, Winemaker.
