London Cru Pinot Noir 2022
£25.00
- 2022 was an outstanding year for English Pinot Noir.
- Serve lightly chilled for maximum refreshment.
- Mathew Jukes (Vineyard Magazine): “Despite the tiptoe-light 11.5% alcohol and the quietest hue, this is an utterly spectacular wine. Winemaker Alex Hurley describes this wine as ‘pretty’, and he is not wrong. It is enchantingly attractive, with a perfect Pinot nose, a long, soothing, wild berry mid-palate and a bright, engaging finish.”

Only 4,566 bottles of this exceptional vintage were produced at London Cru, London’s first urban winery. The grapes were picked from their vineyard in West Sussex and trucked in during the cool hours of the morning to retain freshness. They were then painstakingly fermented in concrete tanks, before further ageing in a mix of concrete and old barrels to create this pure and elegant red which is bristling with wild red berry fruits and a hint of violet. In the mouth it is crunchy with a layer of light, smoky tannin. We recommend you drink this in the sun, paired with charcuterie, and serve slightly chilled at 14°C. It will also pair with grilled aubergine, salty cheese, fatty fish such as salmon or tuna, duck, pork and venison.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Alex Hurley
London Cru opened in 2013 when Cliff Roberson thought it would be a great idea to build London’s first urban winery. A wine-trade face of 50 years, Cliff was no stranger to the urban wineries of America and saw no reason why we shouldn’t have one here. Alex Hurley took over as winemaker in 2018 and, since then, their focus has been producing the most exciting English wines. Hurley hails from Australia and began his career at Lethbridge Wines in the Bellarine Peninsula, near Melbourne. He then worked at wineries in Montpellier, Bordeaux, Barolo, Beaune and finally Gusbourne in Kent, before joining London Cru.
"Pinot Noir is without doubt our favourite style of wine to make... it is also the hardest wine to produce in the UK. Over these last 4 years we have been working with the single-clone Pinot Noir Précoce, and this year we continued this for 80% of the story, but we have been working to refine the style and included 1 tonne (20%) of Burgundian clones (mostly the 777 clone). Our style has always been very light, cool climate, low extraction and elegant. This year we doubled down this path with the goal of making a supremely pretty Pinot." - Alex Hurley, Winemaker.
