The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Burgundy - Côte de Beaune
From the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune vineyards, where winemakers like Sebastien Magnien are showcasing just how good this (often less thought of) area of Burgundy can be. This wine fuses good depth of fruit power with elegance, minerality and charm. The oak is perfectly managed and you can squirrel a bottle away for an occasion down the line, as it’ll age gracefully for a few years in bottle. We’re not going to say that this is a bargain, because it is still a penny shy of £30 a bottle. However, the scarcity and demand for wines, from this most illustrious part of France, make it great value and it really is a very special bottle of wine.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Sebastien Magnien
The fourth-generation vigneron Sebastien Magnien has made a name for himself as a champion of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune sub-region. Originally from the small village of Meloisey, Sebastien says "I've been in the vineyard and the cellar since birth". By studying Viticulture and Oenology, Sebastien has accumulated his knowledge for wine by working around the world in regions such as Sonoma as well as close to home with famous winemaker Olivier Leflaive. Sebastien has built up his range by identifying vineyard sites with the potential to outperform their status.
"We worked hard in the vines to reach good ripeness and I’m really pleased with the finished wine. It has plenty of fruit character, it is fine and elegant with a lovely minerality and gentle oak notes." - Sebastien Magnien, Winemaker.
