The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Burgundy - Côte-d'Or
Saint-Romain is a Burgundian region that is rapidly gaining fans and an improving reputation. It benefits from a natural cooling effect from the valley that leads to it and encourages a freshness, vigour and energy in the finished wines. All fruit is hand-harvested, whole-bunch-pressed and fermented in oak. It is then aged for 12 months, three of which are in stainless steel and the rest in oak, 20% of which is new. This is a superb bottling that has a core of minerality and lime fruit with an energetic and bouncy finish.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Olivier Leflaive
Originally having a career in radio and television, unforeseen circumstances drew Olivier Leflaive back to his family's estate. After working alongside his uncle for many years he decided to branch out and create wines under his own name, selecting grapes from the most prestigious vineyards in Burgundy and beyond to create exceptional wines brimming with fruit character and complexity.
"This is a lovely expression of Chardonnay from our Sous le Château climats in Saint-Romain. Freshness combined with minerality of terroir and a generous personality." - Olivier Leflaive, Winemaker.
