Region:Bordeaux - Bordeaux AOC
Château Le Lau was built in 1762 by the talented French architect Victor Louis and has even graced cinema screens as a film location for Brigette Bardot in 'La Mariée est Trop Belle'. The estate is nestled in one of the oldest appellations in Bordeaux, Graves de Vayres, where the Dordogne River wraps around the gravelly plateau of Arveyres. This red uses the Château's best 50+ year old Merlot vines, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc to add complexity. It is a modern style of Bordeaux with no oak used during the winemaking process. Instead, all of the flavours come from grapes themselves. The aromatics overflow with cherry jam, violets, liquorice, plum, and vanilla. In the mouth these flavours persist and are framed by delightfully fresh acidity and firm but smooth tannins.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Sylvie Plomby
Sylvie started off her career in fashion, but in 2013 she returned to the family winery, Château Le Lau in Bordeaux. She re-trained as a winemaker and has made it her mission to restore the historic family estate to its former glory. She is especially passionate about organic viticulture, and this has been the overarching philosophy for modernising the winery. She encourages biodiversity on the estate and produces the most authentic and delectable wines possible from her vines.
"Our philosophy is to look after our vines with love and consciousness, this is the spirit at Le Lau! We wish above all to create an authentic wine which expresses the identity of this terroir by being thankful to nature - that’s why we practise organic agriculture. We aim to express the freshness of the fruit, its elegance and harmony." - Sylvie Plomby, Winemaker.
