The Wine

Country of origin:

Italy

Region:

Piedmont

Barbera is at home up in the north-west of Italy. It's a very versatile and adaptable grape variety that can result in wine of all kinds of styles, from light to intense, dry to sweet. The Anello Barbera comes from Asti vineyards, where the clay and limestone soils work together to create grapes with excellent fruit concentration, with an extra layer of richness from some time in barrel before release.

The Winemaker

Claudio Manera
Winemaker:

Claudio Manera

Araldica is Piedmont's largest, most progressive co-operative yet retains a small, family run company feel thanks to the inspired guidance of winemaker/manager Claudio Manera (whose father Livio was the co-op's first winemaker in the 50s) alongside his wife Lella, also a winemaker and in charge of quality control.

"Our Asti Barbera is one of our specialities, showing lots of varietal character and excellent energy that lends itself well to some oak maturation." - Claudio Manera, Winemaker.

Didn't hit the spot. A bit acidic on opening, although levelled out after 24 hours of opening. The fruit wasn't as clearly defined as it should be, leaving me disappointed.

Great Barbera. Really enjoyed it.

Definitely, most definitely a wine with food. Pre-food, vinegary and sharp. With food, soft and fruity
