The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Rhône - Côtes du Rhône
The bright red berry fruit and darker notes of blackberries on the nose prepare you for a palate that is incredibly juicy, fully mouth coating, and the balance of spicy tannins is absolutely perfect. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from south facing vineyards that have the picture-perfect round pebbles on the surface with red clay and limestone sitting underneath. The combination of these poor soils, the long warm sunny summers and the ever-present wind keeping pests and disease to a minimum lead to wines with exceptional depth and concentration.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Guillaume Gonnet
Guillaume Gonnet is a 3rd generation winemaker who took ownership if the family estate in Châteauneuf back in 2006. Prior to this he gained invaluable experience working at some of the world's finest wineries, covering renowned regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy and Napa to name a few! He now runs the estate with his wife Kelly and produces a range if terroir driven wines that capture the unique climate this prestigious part of France's Rhône Valley.
"I often described this wine as our 'Baby Châteauneuf-du-Pape', simply because it has a lot of the qualities of our top cuvée but the intensity is just dialled down a little. It is approachable in youth and can age for a few years happily with red and dark fruits, cherries, spices and liquorice on both the nose and palate. It is great with food or just a big chunk of Comte cheese." - Guillaume Gonnet, Winemaker.
