The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Rhône
Still red wines were added to the Rasteau Cru only as recently as the 2009 vintage, seeing a move away from the traditional fortified Vin Doux Naturel wines this Rhône region was famed for, and they still form an important part of the area's production, with still reds in a developing stage of their sure to be long and illustrious future. There's a real drive of primary fruit character to this Rasteau, fresh blackcurrants and super ripe red and black cherries are the main focal notes with hints of dried thyme and crushed rocks. A joyous bottle of red wine with heaps of drinkability and food matching potential.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Guillaume Gonnet
Guillaume Gonnet is a 3rd generation winemaker who took ownership if the family estate in Châteauneuf back in 2006. Prior to this he gained invaluable experience working at some of the world's finest wineries, covering renowned regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy and Napa to name a few! He now runs the estate with his wife Kelly and produces a range if terroir driven wines that capture the unique climate this prestigious part of France's Rhône Valley.
"I am really pleased with how our Rasteau has developed over the years, thanks to reducing yields and improving vineyard practices. A gorgeous balance of power and elegance with big, juicy fruit flavours - fig, blueberries, blackberries supported by delicious notes of dark chocolate and slight hints of violet coming through from the Syrah and little spiciness on the long smooth finish." - Guillaume Gonnet, Winemaker.
