The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Burgundy - Meursault
This classy Meursault is produced by the excellent Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur from a 1.5ha plot 'Les Corbins', which sits just below the 1er Cru site, Les Plures. The vines are an average of 40 years old and sit in stony soil which is over a base of clay and limestone. That's the somewhat factual stuff taken care of and so on to the juicy stuff! The nose is intense and wonderfully ripe, with a slight nuttiness that is captivating. The palate is superbly plush, mouth coating and soft. This is a seamless wine with nice grip, structure and mineral intensity.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Francois Bitouzet-Prieur
The domain produces both red and white wines, with reds accounting for 60% of their total production. Their vineyard holdings are concentrated in Volnay and Meursault, and they have some of the very best 1er Cru sites in both. The signature style for the whites is one of refinement, leaning towards elegance rather than being overblown and old-school with reds showing great structure and fruit-forward with oak used in moderation. A great producer and one to grab a bottle from, or two when you can and tuck one away if you have a bit of a patience as well.
"A round Meursault, with an enchanting mix of spice and mint to the nose, and on the palate the weight is excellent with classic richness and silky buttery texture." - Francois Bitouzet-Prieur, Winemaker.
