  • A super juicy, raspberry and strawberry fruit-filled red with lovely slippery tannins and just a hint of liquorice.
  • This wine is already very drinkable, but if you want a little more depth and structure to develop, we recommend keeping it for a couple of years.
  • Morgon was one of France's earliest official appellations, granted back in 1936, just 12 years after that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape!
  • ABV: 13.5%
  • Vintage: 2022
  • Size: 75cl

The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Burgundy - Beaujolais

There are 10 Crus in Beaujolais that sit above Beaujolais and those sites that can name a village on their bottles. That's not to say there are not plenty of excellent bottles that sit at all levels of the regions classification, but the Crus have that bit more to offer in terms of weight, structure and character. The one thing that makes the region of Morgon stand out from the others is the presence of some seriously good producers, who make wines and work their vines in a natural, sustainable and, often, organic way. Marcel Lapierre is one of these very well-respected producers and his Morgon bottlings are exceptionally captivating.

The Winemaker

Mathieu Lapierre
Winemaker:

Mathieu Lapierre

The approach of this stunning Beaujolais producer focusses on purity and respect for the land and the elements. They have a simple philosophy, that the more they respect the soil and grapes, the more their unique, poor quality granitic soils can be expressed in the wines, and they can keep the winemaking unintrusive and natural, like it would have been many years ago.

"We have 15 hectares of vines on the granitic soils of Morgon and always look to produce wines that reflect the vintage and how that flavoured the grapes. This is, as always for us, wonderfully fruity with lots of raspberry notes, well-structured ripe tannins and plenty of mouth-filling texture." - Mathieu Lapierre, Winemaker.
