In the Black Flag range, nothing is off the table. Any grape variety, or blend, is considered for this project as long as it is crafted without any constraints or compromise. So, this may seem like a strange mishmash of grapes, but winemaker Steve Grimley is adamant that this precise blend, from prestigious plots of land, is exactly the stuff his dreams are made of. It's more savoury than the individual components, with lovely dried spices and a brooding texture.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Steve Grimley
"Although this is our favourite wine to make at Black Flag, we've only done it twice. It's basically the extra few litres we have, each time we run a varietal wine to bottle, all thrown in on top of each other. Technically it's the snapshot of our harvest, albeit we're not overly technical. In no particular order, Touriga, Durif, Shiraz, Mataro, Grenache, more Shiraz, more Grenache, more Mataro, Malbec, and probably a little bit of white no one wanted to own up to. 2018 was a cracking vintage, super ripe and flavour rich wines which carry though in this. I reckon it would pair best with some nice warm food. You'll have at least seven to ten years to drink it if it's cold enough under your stairs." - Steve Grimley, Winemaker.
