The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Champagne
Among all the world's major wine regions, only Champagne through its non-vintage cuvées tries to "iron out" vintage differences to maintain a consistent house style. Yet the Chiquet brothers, the tour de force behind Champagne Jacuesson, believe that being bound to a house style in this way forces a choice between consistency and quality. So rather than making a consistent wine every year, they set out to make the best possible blend each vintage. In other words, Jacquesson chooses expression over consistency! They have replaced all non-vintage wines by a numbered vintage-based cuvée (the first being 728) inspired from the cellar book that indexes all bottlings made since the house was founded in 1798. Each year, a new-subsequently numbered cuvée is released and their reputation grows.
