The Wine

Country of origin:

Spain

Region:

Toro

As you walk up to Monte La Reina, the first thing you see is the castle. Raised above the undulating vineyards, the orange chalky fortress is at the heart of the winery estate. The hot summers and cool winters help the winemaker, José Rogelio Nuño, to develop the best Tempranillo grapes, perfectly ripe and bursting with concentrated flavours. By working his magic, José creates a balanced and elegant wine, packed full of fruity flavours which give way to indulgent notes of vanilla and chocolate. This wine is an excellent example of what the Toro region has to offer and will only get better with age!

The Winemaker

Jose Rogelio Nuno
Winemaker:

Jose Rogelio Nuno

José Rogelio Nuño was born in Moral de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) in 1967. After finishing his studies in Oenology in Madrid, he began to work with the Cantarero family in the now defunct Bodegas Civinasa de Tarancón. Four years later he moved to Manzanares (Ciudad Real) to practice his profession in the Jesús del Perdón Cooperative. From 1998 to 2013 he worked as Technical Director of Bodegas y Viñedos Viña Mayor, one of the great powers of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.

"A complex and elegant wine. Red and black fruit aromas blend with balsamic and toasted notes that are formed from the 6-month aging process in French oak barrels. The initial fruity character gives way to vanilla and chocolate notes. The well-integrated tannins guarantee the wine's long life." - José Rogelio Nuño, Winemaker.
