Steve Grimley has done it again, using his connections to secure some beautiful parcels of fruit for an iconic Black Flag blend. First impressions are that this is a typically ripe and inviting blend just like any McLaren Vale red worth its salt. It has got heaps of mint chocolate and a bit of dried herbs up front before the palate springs forth laden in rich decadent flavours of black forest cake and cherry liqueur. It culminates in a hint of fresh leather and a long lingering finish which, whilst tight enough, still shows the burly tannins both these grapes are known for.

"If I wasn't hand writing this I'd have googled the clever way of describing how 2 theoretical negatives can combine to form a positive... but I am and I'm less than clever with mathematical theorems, amongst others, so there's 3 lines that I didn't need to scribe and you certainly didn't need to read. But, in fairness, I find the tannin, especially managing the drying nature of them, the biggest challenge in making both these varieties. The acid in Sagrantino can also be hard to tame, but 3 negatives into a positive doesn't give me much fodder, but nevertheless fill a page. Funnily enough this wine doesn't seem to have too much tannin or acidity. It's surprisingly good and well worth a decent look." - Steve Grimley, Winemaker.
