The Wine

Country of origin:

Argentina

Region:

Mendoza - Uco Valley

This little vineyard site in Mendoza's Uco Valley gets a textbook-like ideal climate. Lots of sunshine in the days for ripening, and cool temperatures at night so the grapes maintain acidity for balance and freshness. But it's the soil here that sets its wine apart. Zuccardi have taken soil analysis to the next level over the years. It would take a dissertation to even begin to explain it, but let's just say that they're growing Malbec in conditions that can only be described as perfect. So the result is Malbec in its truest, purest and most delicious state.

The Winemaker

Sebastián Zuccardi
Winemaker:

Sebastián Zuccardi

Sebastián Zuccardi, a third-generation winemaker, is recognised globally as one of Argentina's top producers. A graduate in Agricultural Engineering from the National University of Cuyo, Sebastián refined his winemaking philosophy through experiences in wine regions across the United States, France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal. His approach centres on achieving identity through terroir and, as his understanding of the vineyards deepened, he realised that excessive oak was masking the grapes' natural character. Today, he prioritises the fruit's freshness and purity, continuing the legacy of his grandfather, Alberto 'Tito' Zuccardi, and father, José Zuccardi.

"This is about as pure as Malbec gets. Perfect soil and climate and bottled unfiltered. There's a lot of Malbec out there that isn't how it should be. Use this as the benchmark." - Alex Davies, Wine Buyer.

Customer ratings

This wine is way too young and green) and lacked the depth and robustness expected from its esteemed region and vintage. It leads one to question if this was a one-off poor batch or a wider quality concern. Sadly, its high price is unjustifiable, given the poor quality. Overall, a disappointing experience.
