The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Loire - Anjou
In a deeply traditional region, winemaker Florent's choice of screwcaps and a different vine trellising system marked him out as unconventional. Yet today Domaine Baumard is one of the most famous producers within the Loire. This Savennières from the famous vineyards of Clos St Yves is rich, with a balance and charm that is unrivalled. It is a wine full of paradox: honeyed and yet dry, rounded and yet firm. The rich fruit, tremendous weight and concentration ensure that it is a truly unforgettable experience.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Florent Baumard
Domaine Baumard has been practicing sustainable viticulture for over 50 years and is considered as one of the finest producers in the whole of the Loire Valley. Winemaker Florent Baumard is considered a bit of a genius, for the way he manages to capture the characters of each vineyard site in the finished bottles. His insistence that only grapes in perfect condition make the grade is testament to his quality led approach.
"Savennières is a small 150 hectare south-facing vineyard located on the edge of the Loire. Its terroir is composed of sands and sandstone on a base of schists and volcanic veins. Chenin Blanc, a traditional grape variety of this region, finds the optimal climatic conditions here to reach full maturity and offer the best material necessary for this great dry white wine." - Florent Baumard, Winemaker.
