The Wine The Wine
England
Region:Essex
Named after the 20th Element on the periodic table (calcium) because this prized mineral is abundant in its Surrey vineyards. In fact, it is well known that chalky soils have long been responsible for producing some of the most highly regarded and sought-after wines in the world such as Burgundy and Champagne. This is what makes ultra-premium English wines like this so exciting. But don't just take our word for it - dive in and try a glass for yourself! Element 20 is an exceptional pairing with seafood such as oysters, scallops, shellfish and grilled fish. The wine also goes beautifully with goats cheese and light salad dishes.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
John Worontschak
John has been making English wine since 1988. In 2010 he decided to create the first Litmus wine, Element 20. The concept was to move away from the traditional fruity and often one-dimensional English wine styles and create something a lot more complex and age-worthy.
"The 2018 Element 20 is made solely from Chardonnay, fermented and aged in 2- to 5-year-old French oak barriques for 12 months and left on full lees prior to bottling in September 2019. Complex, mature, elegant, and stylish there is a flintiness on the nose that carries through to a gracefully oaked full-bodied wine with a balancing acidity and a fine long, creamy, and persistent finish that pairs well with seafood and vegetarian dishes." - John Worontschak, Winemaker.
