The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Bordeaux - Lalande-de-Pomerol
Well-located on a hill top, facing the greatest Pomerol estates, lies Château Tournefeuille. The clay and gravel soils make this slope uniquely suited to producing top-quality wines. On top of this natural advantage, they have cultivated very old vines (70% of this wine is made from 50-year-old vines, and 30% comes from 30-year-old vines), which create wines with amazing concentration of flavour. Each grape is hand-picked to ensure only the very best make it into this wine, and then the wine itself sits in premium, old, French oak barrels for 18 months to develop complexity. This wine has everything going in its favour!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Emeric Petit
Château Tournefeuille was established in 1998 by his father (François) - although winemaking has long been a passion of the Petit family, dating back to ancestors in 1735. With Emeric now at the helm, he brings a new vision to the Château. He is in the process of converting the vineyards to biodynamic agriculture, but is also keen to stay true to his winemaking roots, experience and values. He sums up his approach as "Tournefeuille wine is the fruit of patience and equilibrium".
"This wine is a caged lion! Powerful and racy, with a deep, dense and long finish. This wine has great potential for laying down, and pairs well with ribs of beef, duck or game." - Emeric Petit, Winemaker.
