This amazing property is probably only usurped in its fame by Château du Beaucastel and produces some of the finest wines on offer from this wonderful region. We are of course in Châteauneuf du Pape, if you hadn't already guessed, where the wines are crafted from the gallet stone strewn vineyards and are some of the most concentrated and powerful in the world. The skill here is to tame that power and add a layer of elegance, which Clos Saint Jean do masterfully. There's a depth of fruit that is jaw dropping and the slight salty tang on the finish is both weird and utterly brilliant.
