We love the Champagnes from this 120-year-old house and have done for many a year. We felt it was time to add to our offering and after a long discussion in the buying team we decided to list their Grand Cellier D’Or. A single vintage release from 50-year-old 1er Cru vines that is incredibly expressive and complex. The wine spends ten months in oak barrels followed by a further 42 months in bottle before it is disgorged (removing the sediment) and released onto the market. Notes of melted butter combine with lemon sorbet and much, much more.

Champagne Vilmart is a 'boutique' House. Our production is very small and organic and that's the way we like it because I can control every aspect of the winemaking, from the selecting of the grapes we use to the type and length of ageing I employ. Unusually we use new oak in ageing our wines, which gives an added dimension, character and potential for development, a decision that has won us praise from the likes of the 'Tom Stevenson' ('Christies Champagne & Sparkling Wine Guide' author).
"An intense, golden yellow in colour with very fine persistent bubbles. I find the nose incredibly complex with melted butter, custard, candied pineapple, cardamom and white pepper. After a few moments, another round of flavour arrives, nuts at first (pralines, hazelnut) followed by mineral notes (chalk, roasted shellfish). The wine is mature and complex with a lot of personality. The finish is very long, exceptionally clean, with a nice conclusion on grapefruit and pralines notes." - Laurent Champs, Winemaker.
