The Wine The Wine
Italy
Region:Puglia
The Lianto Primitivo delivers a full-on blow of spicy black fruit. What it doesn't do though, as full-bodied red can so often do, is tire the palate thanks to a core of freshness running through the palate. Best of both worlds really as you want that saturated and concentrated flavour but you want to be able to drink more than a few sips before crying out for that palate cleansing G&T!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Alessandro Calabrese
Founded in 1999, Schola Sarmenti produces great wines with love and devotion from native vines such as Fiano, Negroamaro and Primitivo, a great expression of the precious terroir of Salento. The winery is proud of its excellent and ancient vineyards with vines up to 80 years old. Alessandro Calabrese preserves the ancient training system, Alberello Pugliese. This is an important choice, a technique so difficult and so precise that only the most expert practitioners are able to craft high quality and high prestige wines using it. The measure of success is in the awards and prizes won from all over the world for their wines.
"The biggest wine in the range but good balance too so it's a nice and approachable style. The dark fruit and spice is a good match for duck and lamb." - Alessandro Calabrese, Winemaker.
