Region:Limarí Valley
The Lote range features bespoke wines that capture and express the characters and location of single varietals. Crafted from hand-picked fruit from three individual parcels of grapes, which combine in the finished wine to create more than the sum of their parts. The world's best Chardonnays all share a common flavour profile and that, without doubt, is backbone and focus on mineral freshness. This is a very precise wine that sports layers of fresh orchard fruit, mango, a touch saline matched with superb richness.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Nicolás Peréz
Nicolás Peréz works alongside the fourth generation of the De Martino family. Although he grew up in Santiago, Chile, during his teenage years he travelled constantly to Chilean Patagonia, where he worked on the culinary project of one of his brothers. This is where he first came into contact with the world of wine, getting to know the different producers that were operating at that time. This experience was key to his decision, at the young age of 14, to become a winemaker. From that moment on, this goal was central to all the decisions he took about his life and studies. Despite his youth, he has gained substantial experience working in different international wineries in California and Australia, before returning to his home of Chile.
At De Martino, the winemaking philosophy is based on minimal intervention on single vineyards, including sustainable farming and traditional winemaking methods. Wines are crafted with native yeast, balanced in alcohol and moderate oak (when needed) to preserve the essence of the vineyards. De Martino is proud to be the first producer to bottle single-varietal Carménère in Chile, the first South American Carbon Neutral winery, Chilean Wine Producer of the Year in 2005 & 2009 by IWSC and Chilean Winery of the Year.
"Most of the work for this wine takes place in the vineyard where we carefully manage yields to ensure the grapes reach optimum ripeness for the style we want to create. The harvest is all taken care of by hand to further ensure the quality of the finished wine. We use old oak barrels for the ageing to allow a very gentle oxygenation and not to impart any obvious wood flavours and tannins. Our favourite thing about this blend is the tension and balance between richness and freshness. We hope you enjoy it." - Nicolás Peréz, Winemaker.
