The Wine The Wine
South Africa
Region:Western Cape
It is perhaps hard to believe, with Chenin and Pinotage known for being the darlings of South Africa, that back in the 1800s Semillon was by far the most planted grape variety in South Africa. Ryno Booysen is the mastermind behind the Five Bastions, embodying everything that this varietal has to offer. The extraction from the mineral-rich soils aid the herbaceous notes, that in turn complement the palate of peach and tropical fruits beautifully. There is also a squeeze of citrus refreshment, resulting in a super clean finish. This Semillon is pretty infectious stuff that's going to work with anything from pulled pork to a smoked mackerel salad. For those wishing to find an alternative to Sauvignon, Viognier or Chardonnay, dive in and add this grape to your repertoire!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Ryno Booysen
The wine must express where it comes from, you must be able to taste the soil, the quality of the grapes and lastly, hopefully, something from me as the winemaker - you will end up with a wine destined for greatness.
