Using Tempranillo as the main part of this blend was a great choice. It suits the shorter-term oak ageing perfectly, picking up the subtle vanilla and cinnamon notes from the barrel but without losing the fruit-forward and generously sweet strawberry character. A match made in heaven.

His versatility and expertise have seen him excel in both small, family-run wineries and larger operations, culminating in his current role at Bodegas Paniza. Here, he leverages his deep knowledge of grape varieties like Garnacha, Syrah, and Viura. Mentored by esteemed winemakers like Pedro Cárcel, Álvaro embodies the new wave of Spanish winemaking talent that has already made a significant mark on the industry.
