Region:Bordeaux - Saint-Estèphe
Situated right on the Gironde River, a stone's throw from world famous first growth Château Lafite, Montrose uses its proximity to the river with great effect. Their vineyards hug the river's edge so the water warms the area in winter and spring, protecting the vines from the dangerous frosts. The cooling effect in the summer gives the grapes a freshness that's vital to balance the supremely concentrated fruit. This is the second wine of a second growth estate, arguably the best way to buy genuinely world-class wine at prices far lower than the unfathomable numbers those wines at the pinnacle can reach.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Vincent Decup
Vincent Decup joined the Château Montrose team in June 2014, after a brief period working in Napa Valley at the Dominus Estate before returning to his home of Bordeaux. At Château Montrose he enjoys excellent winemaking facilities such as the 1,000 square metre, 11-metre-high main barrel hall where his premium wine can mature in ideal conditions. It is also important to the team to look after the environment, which is why the Château works hard to save and produce energy through a geothermal system and 3,000 square metres of rooftop solar panels, and to significantly reduce the estate's carbon footprint.
"Made to the same rigorous standards as the First Wine, from grapes grown in the same vineyard, La Dame de Montrose is the estate's second label. Supple and silky Merlot generally predominates in the varietal mix. Aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels, its very pronounced red fruit aromas and flavours reflect another expression of the terroir in a distinctive style.
