Visiting Marc Ripoll in Priorat was a spur of the moment call when we realised we had a spare hour on an otherwise very busy day. We caught him on his way out after a long day during harvest and he reopened his doors and welcomed us with open arms, such is his enthusiasm for all things wine. We were blown away by what he produces and how he produces it, with his finger constantly on the pulse of winemaking developments, but also his extraordinary use of his space in his charming little winemaking cave! The wines are fruit-laden and robust, a real strength of Priorat red wine, but with a purity and freshness that is all too often absent.
