The Wine The Wine
Italy
Region:Tuscany
Brought back to life by the pure approach to winemaking of Englishman John Dunkley and his Italian wife, Palmina, it's Lana Frank that now stands at the helm of this family-owned winery, continuing with the same winemaking philosophy that helped this beautiful property in Chianti Classico get back to its rightful place at the summit of Italian fine wine production. La Gioia is their top wine, only the best Sangiovese grapes qualify, and with careful maturation in the best oak barrels for two years, the wine develops complex black fruit and spice character without losing an inch of its natural elegance, purity and freshness. Seriously fine.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Lana Frank
Lana Frank and family proudly maintain the wine philosophy of their predecessor, John Dunkley - an Englishman that developed the reputation locally as one of the best producers of Chianti, thanks to his absolute commitment to the Sangiovese grape and getting the truest expression out of it, year in, year out. Lana has taken Riecine to the next level since taking over in 2011, developing a state-of-the-art winery and raising their profile worldwide by consistently producing wine that is, quite simply, world class.
"In the mouth it's large and very fine, with notes of black berry fruits. Subtle spices strongly supported by velvety and rounded tannins with a long, floral finish and notes of cocoa and tobacco. Ideal with heavy dishes led by rosemary and thyme, as well as lamb curry and pigeon in plum sauce." - Lana Frank, Winemaker.
