Describing something as a great value alternative to Champagne is used for anything fizzy that is cheaper than Champagne itself these days, so we'd forgive you for ignoring it as marketing spiel. In the case of Cremant produced by the head honcho at Domaine Baumard, Florent Baumard, you'd be mad to ignore it. He's a class act, crafting wines that are not just incredibly good but great value too. This is a delicate, fine Rosé with light red berry fruit, a little fresh peach and just a hint of mint.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Florent Baumard
Domaine Baumard has been practicing sustainable viticulture for over 50 years and is considered as one of the finest producers in the whole of the Loire Valley. Winemaker Florent Baumard is considered a bit of a genius, for the way he manages to capture the characters of each vineyard site in the finished bottles. His insistence that only grapes in perfect condition make the grade is testament to his quality led approach.
"I keep this wine on its lees in bottle for at least 2 years before I release it. I find without that I don't achieve the delicate complexities I want in my finished wines. A very fine, pale pink, the nose is enticing, full of peachy fresh fruit, with some red fruits sprinkled with mint. I find the palate delicious with hints of strawberry and cream, sprinkled with notes of black pepper on the palate. I always look for harmony, vibrancy and lively mousse in my sparkling." - Florent Baumard, Winemaker.
