Region:Loire - Coteaux Du Layon
If there is one word to describe the Loire Valley it would have to be diversity. Why? Because you can get virtualy every style of wine imaginable. Domaine Baumard is a cracking little organic producer located south of the town of Angers and this is winemaker Florent Baumard's take on stunning Coteaux du Layon, the world renowned dessert wine region on the banks of the Layon River. This wine is all about pure fruit and mineral freshness. An excellent aperitif, partner for the French classic Duck a l'orange!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Florent Baumard
Domaine Baumard has been practicing sustainable viticulture for over 50 years and is considered as one of the finest producers in the whole of the Loire Valley. Winemaker Florent Baumard is considered a bit of a genius, for the way he manages to capture the characters of each vineyard site in the finished bottles. His insistence that only grapes in perfect condition make the grade is testament to his quality led approach.
"My approach is a simple one where I take it one vintage at a time. I work in the Loire where the weather from year to year can be dramatically different and so I must respect Mother Nature's wishes. With my Coteaux du Layon I look to produce a sweet wine that can be enjoyed alone that is obviously a dessert wine but has much less sugar than many others. It means you can pair with a wider range of food and enjoy it alone more easily." - Florent Baumard, Winemaker
