Traditionally, the Alicante grape variety was used as a blending component, intensifying the colour of lighter wines. The red grapes we all know, say Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have uncoloured juice, but the Alicante berry has a vibrant red juice, a rare but useful quality. This year we decided to make a single varietal wine after harvest because the quality of the fruit we had in our hands was truly exceptional.
