The Wine The Wine
Lebanon
Region:Bekaa Valley
After setting up his winery in 1973, the owner of Château Ka, Akram Kassatly, had his very first vintage catastrophically destroyed by the militia. 32 years later, against all the odds, he returned to his winery and has made Château Ka into a major success! Source Blanche is a wonderfully fragrant white that intrigues and charms in equal measure. The synergy between zippy Sauvignon, apricot-laden Viognier, floral Muscat and finally crisp Chardonnay is alluring in this uniquely delicious, un-oaked white wine.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Akram Kassatly
Akram Kassatly built his winery in the Bekaa Valley in 1973. Shortly after the first wines were made, Lebanon was engulfed by war. The winery was forced to close and Akram moved into other businesses. Finally, in 2005, he announced that he was going to try again. Today, Château Ka is the only winery in Lebanon to produce wine entirely from their own vineyards. Akram creates both rich, concentrated reds and beautifully fresh, fruity, crisp white wines that are some of the finest in the country.
"I always look to preserve as much freshness as possible in my wines. During my oenology training in Dijon I learnt that the world's best wines are fruit-forward but balanced by natural freshness. Thanks to the high altitude of my vineyards, my job is made a little simpler! I love the flavours of this wine. By bringing together 4 different varieties there's so much going on. It works brilliantly when served with spiced lamb dishes." - Akram Kassatly, Winemaker.
