The Wine

Country of origin:

Portugal

Region:

Douro Valley

This Vintage Port is glorious. The decision to bottle a Quinta de Panascal vintage is taken when the wine is judged to be of exceptional quality. This proves that this intense, robust red meets some of the highest standards set in wine making. Just try it for yourself and you will certainly see why. As an extra extravagance, try paired with chocolate.

The Winemaker

David Guimaraens
Winemaker:

David Guimaraens

David Guimaraens is the 6th generation of the founder of Fonseca Guimaraens. At 18, he set out to experience winemaking in Australia, California and Oregon. David formalised his education in Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. After graduating and working, he returned to Portugal in 1990 to join the Fonseca winemaking team. He has been instrumental in producing the Fonseca and Taylor Fladgate wines since, now serving as a Director of Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca.

"Like Guimaraens Vintage Ports, this is made in years producing softer more approachable wines which do not need to be cellared for a long time before being enjoyed. The wines of Quinta do Panascal are rich, with voluptuous fruitiness, mouth filling density and a velvety texture." David Guimaraens, Winemaker.

Customer ratings

Nice and plummy, smooth but smoky on the finish. For those moaning about the cork, this is not uncommon with vintage ports which benefit from straining through muslin.

This is a stunning port!

I haven't tasted the port as the cork was such bad quality it disintegrated when I tried to open the bottle. I did get a refund but wouldn't advice ordering this port.

No idea what it actually tastes like as unable to remove cork from the bottle. Cork is stuck and is destroyed in place by cork screws

Love it !! what can i say. Should have got more.
