The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Bordeaux - Graves
Situated right on the banks of the Garonne this vineyard is dominated by one of the most elegant Chateaus in the Graves region, and is owned by a Welsh Couple, Sean and Nicola Allison. Where they have ensured organic production, and the wines are exceptional quality for the price. The Chateau du Seuil Cerons is a luscious dessert wine whose apricot sweetness is balanced well by racy crisp lemon acidity.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Sean and Nicola Allison
Château du Seuil was acquired by an entrepreneurial Welsh couple, Bob and Sue Watts in 1988. They renovated the Château, built a modern winery and re-established many of the old vineyards. From this point on, the wines became known for their very high quality and finesse. Today, their daughter Nicola Allison and her husband Sean have taken on the estate, following the traditions established by Nicola's parents. The estate comprises of 25 hectares, which includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc vines. There are 15 hectares in the Graves appellation (which takes its name from the gravel soils) and 10 hectares in the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The vines are managed following organic certification to achieve a healthy vineyard, whilst at the same time minimising the impact on the environment. Sean and Nicola are involved in every aspect of making their wines from the vineyards through to the final bottle. Extensive use is made of the best in traditional winemaking methods coupled with the advantages of modern technology.
From Bordeaux's smallest Appellation of only 19 producers. Chateau du Seuil Cérons is the original style of late harvest wine made at the property for over 150 years. The old vine Semillon is grown on terraces of river gravel and sand deposits with a sub soil limestone, clay, iron pan. Our proximity to the river Garonne creates conditions of early morning mist which allows the botrytis to infect the grapes.
