We were on the hunt for an excellent Pinot Noir and it was at an extensive tasting with the super-talented winemaker Carlos Torres Silva that we finally found it. El Sabio is made with superb, full-blooded fruit from the Valle Central region. It has sweet cherry charm and, although it has typical varietal softness, a small proportion of it was matured in older American and French oak to add roundness and generosity to the wine.

A delicious red fruit-filled wine, blended up with winemaker JD Rossouw at his wonderful winery tucked away in quiet corner of Franschhoek. As is often the case when you are working with several different parcels that are all great in their own right, it takes quite a few attempts to get the wine just right. We settled on a blend that comprised of 50% Pinotage, 20% Cinsault, 20% Grenache Noir and 10% Carignan. You'll find plenty of ripe red and black fruit and a palate that has a lovely silky style. Rich yet fresh and very well balanced.
