Coastal Alvarinho from Portugal is becoming a firm favourite at VW. Though the grape variety has found fame in recent years from Spain's Galicia just north of the border, it's the sites along the Portuguese coast that are really starting to produce excellent quality and varietal expression at a lower price. Brisa Branca has all the trademark Alvarinho characteristics - an abundance of citrus fruit with a subtle tropical twist and a salinity on the palate that both refreshes and pairs incredibly well with all seafood dishes.

The vines are situated in the Voor-Paardeberg area, a small ward bordering Swartland and Agter-Paarl. It's a region of much diversity and is planted with some less familiar Cape varieties, allowing us to create truly unique wines, working alongside some of the Cape's most talented winemakers. This is a perfectly balanced white that captures the ever-progressing approach to winemaking in South Africa and we love its energy and engaging flavour.

Northern Italy is blessed with the geography to produce top fizz. Mountains, a fresh climate and suitable soils provide an ideal home for a number of grape varieties to flourish. Sourced from the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast of France, this blend of grapes offers a playful take on a classic Rhône combination. We had to bide our time while awaiting the release of the Pizo Gran Reserva. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Garnacha blend sits in fine oak barrels for three years before bottling, where it rests for a further two years allowing the complex flavours to meld together, ensuring a perfectly balanced, complex wine on release. Its firm flavours will stand up to powerfully flavoured food too, roast or grilled lamb in particular.

El Nubarrón Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Hernan de la Barra tends these Cabernet vines in a verdant valley, tucked between the Andes and the coastal mountain ranges. Despite an extremely early and hot season that was made especially challenging because of the ongoing drought, the vines have endured and provided very ripe fruit. The vines here benefit from a mild climate and moist soil which is perfect for grape growing. And after careful alchemy in the winery the resulting wine is beautifully structured with welcome tannins and succulent dark berry fruit.
