As you walk through the rolling vineyards of the Cramele Recas estate, if you didn't know where you were you'd be convinced you were in Northern Rhône or any other "Classic" European wine producing region - and to a certain extent you are. Romania has a history of winemaking stretching back millennia. So, whilst you may not recognise the name of the region or the grape variety, you are in very safe hands with this full bodied and sumptuously fruity red.

Pizo Cariñena 2023

The Pizo Cariñena is a deep-coloured, velvety wine with ripe black fruit galore. It gets its richness from very carefully limiting the yields in the vineyard, excellent soils and the ideal climate. The character it gets when expertly cultivated like it is here gives ripe bramble fruit, spice and earthy aromas. Its dark nature helps it match up beautifully with heavy dishes like beef stew and strongly flavoured game meats.

Combining perfectly ripe, spicy Shiraz with blackberry and herbal-scented Cabernet Sauvignon has become second nature to the South Australian winemakers. It is a style of wine that simply just works. Steve's winery in the McLaren Vale brings us, once again, a classic Aussie red full of vibrant fruit character.

Billy Bosch Bushvine Cinsault 2022

In its flavour profile, Cinsault (or Hermitage as it was originally known) tastes like a smoky Pinot Noir, and these two varietals are the parent grapes responsible for the creation of South Africa's most revered red grape, Pinotage. From its very terminology, 'dryland' indicates challenging terroir but vines and roots work harder to extract more from the soil. Furthermore, bush vines naturally expel lower yields, which in turn aid the concentration of fruit and ultimately, the wine's intensity. Billy Bosch is highly drinkable with black cherry at its core and subtle floral overtones. To complement its mineral-led backbone, try guinea-fowl and braised kale. This Cinsault is also going to work well with Toulouse sausages and parmentier potatoes.

With its cool maritime climate and large flat plains brimming with sunlight, the Limestone Coast is a favourite Aussie playground for producing bold and fruit-forward wines. Rising star winemaker Andréa Maxwell has expertly managed to harness the power of these shiraz grapes by creating a wine bursting with flavours of dark cherry and plum that mingle with a hint of spice and chocolate. It is the perfect balance between punchy, dense black fruit and easy drinking, making it an ideal wine to be enjoyed on its own or with a meal.

Les Arbousiers Trio 2023

Why have one grape variety when you can have three? Trio is a blend of equal parts Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard and Gros Manseng from the south west of France. And whilst each grape can be beautiful on its own, this blend becomes greater than the sum of its parts. It is a really versatile white which will accompany crisp summer salads, grilled fish and roasted poultry with authority. Enjoy well chilled.

Nestled within the vineyards of the Coastal Region of South Africa comes this wonderfully ripe and fruity parcel of Chenin Blanc. The Mediterranean climate of the region allows this signature South African white variety to thrive. Warm, sunny days are Chenin Blanc’s best friend and produce wine with an abundance of stone fruit and pear, complemented by a mineral edge. Great enjoyed chilled on its own or with creamy mushroom pasta.

El Zumbido Viura 2023

El Zumbido ('the buzz') is a local nickname for the wind that whistles through the vines up in the hills of Cariñena. This wind is critical to the style of this Viura. Ripened well in the Spanish sun, the grapes develop lovely peach aromas backed up by pear. But it's the El Zumbido that keeps the wine from becoming overripe and sticky, delivering an integral freshness that completes a very moreish wine.
