- The Jura Distillery originally opened in 1810 but truly came to life when it was refurbished and reopened in 1963!
- With the reopening it brought a new lease of life to this wonderful, rugged, west Scottish island and the great people who live there.
- Today the distillery produces some of the best whisky Scotland has to offer and at Virgin Wines we are huge fans of their sweet smoky drams.

Region:Islands
The Jura Distillery is the beating heart of the island and not only does it provide many of the islands inhabitants with employment it helps keep the economy alive. It is only 60 miles off mainland Scotland but when visiting you'd think you really were in the middle of nowhere! This expression has been aged for 21 years, mostly in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in Virgin American Oak. The resulting whisky is incredible. It still holds the island's signature of showing sweetness and gentle smoke but lurking behind these two givens you'll find a whole host of character that you must taste to behold. The Jura 21 Year Old is without doubt one of the best single malts we've ever tasted and is a must-have for anyone who is serious about their whisky, or getting serious.
The Distillery The Distillery
Situated just 60 miles off the west coast of Scotland, Jura only has one road, one pub and one distillery! The local population of around 200 people are outnumbered by the native Red deer an incredible 30 to 1! It's hard to measure the importance the distillery plays in the island community, it is not only the largest employer, but is vital in sustaining the local economy. The people of Jura are ingrained in the distillery and their passion is key in making the iconic flavours that diversify throughout the range from the Journey through to the 21 year old single malt.
