The Spirit The Spirit
England
The back story to Portobello Road Gins creation began back in 2011 where, nestled above a 19th century drinking den on London's world famous Portobello Road, four long-time friends decided, after amassing a staggering collection of gin & artefacts, to open The Ginstitute! The location became home to a small 30L copper pot still, wonderfully named Copernicus the Second! It was here that, after a bit of home schooling on the do's and don'ts of gin making and a serious nine months of experimentation, Portobello Road Gin was created.
The Distillery The Distillery
Today the distillery is still found on Portobello Road but at 181 where the team have a four floor gin emporium which welcomes people to head along to learn a bit more and join classes where you can make your own gin. From an idea formed by four friends above a pub in 2011 to craft their own gin, the journey has been pretty impressive to follow. Settling on a nine botanical recipe after several months of trials their first release has grown from humble beginnings into a world famous spirit.
The Perfect Serve The Perfect Serve
We don't always agree with the recommended serves by the creators but on this occasion they are spot on and in their words - "best served simply with tonic and a twist of pink grapefruit." For a single use 25ml gin and 100ml tonic and for a double use 50ml gin and 150ml tonic.
