Not many minutes away from Virgin Wines HQ in Norwich is Bullards distillery in Norwich. So obviously we had to see what they had on offer - and we were mightily impressed. Their London Dry Gin was so smooth, that served over ice with a slice of lemon is all you need to bring out its character. Slightly less local, but just as impressive, is the garden shed where Jonathan has set up his own production of Norfolk Gin. Presented in a distinctive ceramic bottle each batch of only 24 bottles is filled, sealed and labelled by hand.

Norfolk Gin's story began in 2014 when Jonathan, founder and creator, started making gin on a very small scale at home. He toiled away for 18 months looking to perfect his skills and he finally settled on his homemade recipe, releasing Norfolk Gin in June 2015. His first batch was just 15 bottles and to his surprise it sold out within a few days. He got busy as demand continued to grow and now makes a new batch every couple of days in the garden shed rather than the kitchen!

The distillers at Norwich City's only distillery, Bullards, keep the exact botanical recipe for their gin very close to their chests. However, we can tell you that a key ingredient is the South American Tonka Bean. It is revered in food and distilling for its complex array of flavours and during distillation transfers a whole host of these into Bullards' award winning spirit. These dark flat wrinkled seeds add vanilla, sour cherry, liquorice and much more to this world-class London Dry Gin.
