Pinotage is South Africa's very own grape variety. And it almost never was, because in 1925 only 4 seeds existed. They were planted and then forgotten about entirely. But some years later the vines were re-discovered - and the rest is history! Now Pinotage is recognised as South Africa's signature variety. The Pizo Cariñena is a deep-coloured, velvety wine with ripe black fruit galore. It gets its richness from very carefully limiting the yields in the vineyard, excellent soils and the ideal climate. The character it gets when expertly cultivated like it is here gives ripe bramble fruit, spice and earthy aromas. Its dark nature helps it match up beautifully with heavy dishes like beef stew and strongly flavoured game meats.
