We're really happy with how this vintage turned out. The nose has a nice dollop of red fruit, with some deep mocha and briary complexity. A nicely balanced palate with a mix of primary, lush fruit and a lovely mature edge that comes from bottle ageing. There are hints of fine oak on the palate, but the fruit is not swamped. The barrels add extra dimension of texture, giving it a lavish, super-premium feel.

Billy Bosch Paarl Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

In Paarl this iconic grape is normally blended with other varieties such as Merlot. But here Ryno Booysen, the winemaker of this delicious red, has decided to let Cabernet Sauvignon flourish on its own. Paarl's mountainous terrain is punctuated by hot summers and cool nights, allowing Cabernet to thrive and develop classy notes of cassis and blackcurrant leaf. Ryno has worked his magic to maintain these luscious flavours whilst also adding a touch of class, giving the wine a very natural feel with subtle hints of oak.

Australian Merlot is often overlooked and sits down the pecking order, living quietly in the shadow of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, just doing its thing. And its thing is to deliver wonderfully juicy, plum-and-red-berry-laden grapes to award-winning winemaker, David King, to transform into the one of the most drinkable red wines out there. This Merlot is perfectly ripe, smooth and has a lovely, delicate, spiced edge with notes of plum, blackberry and vanilla.
