Region:Lager is by no means restricted to the pale style. Out in Germany, when the winter sets in, you'll see a lot more dark lager in people's glasses. While the change in malt gives a beer that's rounder and richer with dried fruit and spicy notes, the yeast and fermentation are largely the same, so that trademark crispness is still there, underpinning the unique flavours.
