This is a cracker from a plot of seriously old Carignan vines planted in way back in 1903! The vines can be located in a cooler spot, which helps temper the warm Mediterranean climate. So, what does that mean for the finished wines? Well in the hands of a talented grower and winemaker like Pierre Escudie they exhibit wonderful freshness that sits alongside the naturally dark flavour characters that are so charming in old vine Carignan and allowing this bottling an extra dimension of luscious drinkability.

Jean Stodden’s 'J' Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) is a fine example of Germany's ability to make the finest Pinot Noir. They've extracted maximum character from the grapes without putting its elegance into any jeopardy whatsoever. This is a light wine but with a punch of intense red berries and raspberries and a hint of spice from carefully used oak barrels, and the impressive vibrancy gives the finish remarkable length.

A deep and sinuous red wine, produce from a collection of parcels of fruit that winemaker Xavier Vignon has unearthed in the south of the Rhône Valley. All the grapes are hand harvested from vineyards that are a minimum of 80 years old, which in vine terms, are about as old as you can get! You'll find lots of dark berry fruit, earthy undertones and the high abv% gives the wine a lovely shine to the long and spicy finish.

Mourvèdre can be a tricky grape to work with and as such is rarely found flying solo, more often it is used by winemakers as the seasoning in a blend. The one time, which is the case here, that you'll find it as a single varietal wine is when the fruit comes from seriously old vines, some here over a century in age! As the vines age they get less productive but produce small bunches of highly concentrated grapes that are ideally suited to time in oak barrels and a period of extended ageing in bottle. This 2015 release is absolutely delicious, silky smooth and packed with dense berry-fruit character.

We recently embarked on a project with Norwich University of the Arts whereby we engaged with a crop of current students to develop a brand and design a label to go alongside it. They then headed into HQ to present, and we whittled the options down to a select few. ‘Dead Beat Feet’ was one that we loved, and we knew that this wine would capture the wonderful concept behind the story and design. The wine is exceptionally crisp, has a lovely eastern fruitiness and is the perfect wine style for pouring when you are ready to put your feet up and relax after a long day.

In the 1960s, Semillon was very popular and widely planted in Chile, but with the rise of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc in more recent years the vines have been ripped up and replaced, leaving only a few thousand hecatres remaining. As such we were thrilled when this Semillon was part of the Chilean 2022 vintage tasting - and it was such a standout wine that we bought the full parcel there and then. It comes from rare, low-yielding and intensely flavoured 80-year-old vines from Apalta, within the Colchagua Valley, nestled in the Chilean Coastal Range. The wine is fresh and aromatic, with some mid-palate weight and plenty of lemon barley fruitiness which lingers on the finish.
