The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Champagne

Placing the art of blending at the heart of their approach, Louis Roederer have replaced their non-vintage Champagne with this multi-vintage Collection. Combining its longstanding pursuit of excellence with a new spirit of freedom to achieve its constant objective: to create the best possible Champagne with each blend. Collection features an increased proportion of oak aged reserve wines and lower dosage, as well as freedom of blending style. This is a new and exciting direction for this noble Champagne House.

The Winemaker

Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon
Winemaker:

Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon

Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon has been Cellar Master of Louis Roederer since 1999.

"Each Collection is a change of gear, a new chapter in the Champagne House' world of taste. Always unique, yet always decidedly Roederer! Collection 243 is a blend of 42% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 18% Meunier. 59% of the base vintage for this wine is 2018, giving it warmth and generosity thanks to the perfect ripeness of the fruit harvested in this vintage. It also has 31% perpetual reserve wines (from 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) giving a core of saline energy and 10% oak age reserve wines (from 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) adding spice and depth. The patina of age adds a lovely softness to the blend and some slightly toasted smoky notes." - Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, Winemaker.
