The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Languedoc

Our La Penombre range has grown since we first launched the white back in 2019. With each addition to the collection, we've always tried to keep a theme running through it. A series of wines that have a lovely purity to them and are always somewhat traditional in their style. This old vine Grenache is no different and, like all the others, delivers plenty of engagement in the glass with lots of character but, above all, lashings of what makes wine so enjoyable, that drinkability that is all too often overlooked for another layer of oak or degree of alcohol.

I'm very pleased to now tend our family vines in a sustainable way to ensure they are still here for the next generation. We have some especially old plots of vines that produce exceptionally concentrated parcels of fruit and I take great pride in seeing the fruit of these vines arriving at the winery every vintage.

"This is one of my most enjoyed wines that we created from a parcel of 30 year old Grenache vines in the Vallee des Aspres, in the Roussillon which are planted in compacted chalky clay soil, strewn with pudding stones. Sweet fruit is overlaid by simple spice and the finish is long and very well balanced." - Pierre Escudie, Winemaker.
