The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Provence - Côtes de Provence

Wine and food matching is a long standing tradition and you'll find it hard to beat the combination of local provincial dishes and the wines of the area. There's a touch of rose petal and watermelon on the nose with a subtle strawberry intensity, but it is the pale, salmon pink colour of this wine that we find so enticing. A classic ratatouille or a melon and ham salad are ideal partners.

The Winemaker

Philippe Laillet
Winemaker:

Philippe Laillet

Philippe Laillet is the winemaker for Gilardi. Founded by Pierre Gilardi in 1906, they have since become world-renowned as specialists in rosé wine production. Located in Les Arcs sur Arges, in the very heart of the Côtes de Provence, Phippe works hand in hand with local wine-growers to produce excellent wines made with the emblematic varietals of Provence rosé - Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Syrah & Carignan.

"The key to Provence rosé is Cinsault, which makes up 25% of the blend. This has been blended with 15% Syrah to give colour and a touch of spice. Grenache Noir makes up 60% of the blend and brings body and typical red fruit flavours. The grapes were carefully selected from vineyards in the west of the Côtes de Provence appellation. The volume, force, freshness, and lingering fruity aromas of this wine makes it the perfect ally for dishes with a southern influence. Enjoy with a gazpacho of tomatoes or with stuffed vegetables." - Philippe Laillet, Winemaker.

Good quality Provence Rose, worth the money

Drinkable, but poorly balanced. Metallic without enough balancing components it felt prematurely old.
